The Dakkina Dagaba (21) 

 

Coming from vessagiri on the Kurunegala Road towards the Bodhi tree, You will see a large circular brick structure, the remains of the Dakkina Thupa or Southern Dagaba. This Dagaba was excavated by Prof. Paranavithana in 1948 and has been well and simply conserved. An inscription proved that is was built in the reign on King Vattagamini Abhaya (C.89-77 B.C.) by his General Uttiya. The Dakkina Dagaba was endowed with a vihara, after 300 monks let by Uttiya Tissa.
