Passinnatissa Pabbata Viharaya (26)

Continuing along the tank to the east on the Mehinthalaya road lies Passinnatissa Pabbata Viharaya, correctly identified by a 5th century inscription found on the site. It was founded by king Jettatissa. There are an image-house, a chapter house, a thupa and a Bodhi-tree shrine. The wall of the terrace was faced with elephants, in the same Fashion  as the Ruwanvali, but these were of plaster and brick and have not worn well.
