The Nuwara Weva Tank

 

The Nuwara wewa is the largest tank in Anuradhapura and was constructed by gradual enlargement, the work of many kings, in the early centuries A.D. a channel linking this tank with the huge Nachchaduwa tank to the southeast was built by Moggallana in 535 A.D. The system was linked to the Jaya Ganga, the canal that also feeds the Tissa wewa tank, by the same king it is 7 km across and 12m deep in places.
